Pleae read the first and second sets of clues first, that's the whole point ... :-)

"An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth"
... from a religious text

"Life does not forgive weakness"
... from a politician

"It is the enemy who can truly teach us to practice the virtues of compassion and tolerance"
... from a living religious leader

"The state can do what they want to do"
... from a politician

"If I had to choose between betraying my country and betraying my friend, I hope I should have the guts to betray my country"
... from a British author

"If the path be beautiful, let us not ask where it leads"
... from a non-British author

"Crime is a product of social excess"
... from a politican

"Do unto others as you would have them do unto you"
... most people think this is from a religious text but its origins are older than that. I would love it if someone could find a verifiable source for this quote (or a close approximation of it) older than 500BC which is the oldest date I currently have for it.

"And mankind is naught but a single nation"
... from a religious text

"Bulimia is soooo '87"
... from a movie
