: It's been awhile and the board is dead (no thanks to me and my inablity to do twelve things at once) so why not talk books.

: What were the last five books you read? Would you recommend them? Why or why not?

I'm currently reading The Oracle's Queen, by Lynn Flewelling, and in fact am almost finished with it. It's been a good read so far...and now...the last 5...

1. Phantastes by George MacDonald. Lovely written prose, with out much of a plot or character building. It was a little hard to get into the style, but once there, was happy to go along for the ride. Only recommended if you like older style fantasy. (written in the 19th century)

2. The Children of Green Knowe by L.M. Boston - This is the first book of a YA series from the 1950's, and while it's not great, it's very nostaligic, entertaining and a little creepy. Good stuff!

3. An Assembly Such as This - Pamela Aidan - a retelling of Pride and Prejudice from Mr. Darcy's POV. Not great, but entertaining fluff. It's very drawn out though, as book 1 ends about 1/3 through the happenings of P&P. Not sure if I will get the 2nd book, but it made me want to revisit P&P.

4. The Blood Knight by Greg Keyes - the 3rd book in The Kingdons of Thorn and Bone series, and perhaps it's strongest? Characters are growing up, events are interesting...what's not to like? Good, solid epic fantasy series.

5. Inkheart by Cornelia Funke. My niece was insistant that I read this, and it was okay. I think her Thief Lord book was better.
