Ohhh, I actually have recommendations!! Recently I read The Time Traveller's Wife by Audrey Niffeneger (i think that's right) and Elantris by Brandon Sanderson. The Time Traveller's Wife was very original and very interesting and I stayed up to 3:20 am devouring it. Elantris appears to be an actual stand alone fantasy novel. Although it's got a lot of the general fantasy elements (a kingdom affected by corrupted magic, political intrigue, evil priest), it was new and refreshing. I gave 5 stars to TTW and 4 stars to Elantris.
: : What's new? What's exciting? What do I need to rush to the store to buy? What have you enjoyed lately? : Details, details! I want details! : I just finished Bound by Donna Jo Napoli. It was ok, but not really what I thought it would be. It was based on the oldest known Cinderella story, the story of the carp in China. There wasn't nearly enough magic in it to satisfy me and the wicked stepmother wasn't really wicked at all. : Is anyone going to buy book 2 of Robin Hobb's latest series? Book 1 was such a snooze-a-palooza that I have no problem waiting for paperback. . . except that paperback won't match the collection.
: Ok, so I've been out of the fantasy loop for the past year. I have no idea what's out there waiting to be discovered. I have no idea what fun I'm missing.
