: : So we get these ads on TV or even in the mail for the Temperpedic mattress all the time. What I've always wondered about is how is this mattress considered a Swedish mattress but developed by scientists at NASA? Was there some secret Swedish/US space collaboration that I've never heard about before? Or just seriously false advertising? Are these Temperpedic mattress even known or popular in Sweden? It always brings a chuclke to me when I hear them say 'The SWEDISH mattress, developed by top scientists at NASA!'

: : Any ideas? Or am I just laughing for naught and it really make sense to the rest of the world but me?

: : Jen

: I'm not really Swedish, but close enough. *g*

: They're called Tempur-mattresses in Sweden/Finland. The material WAS developed by NASA scientists, but a small Danish company called Dan-Foam started to develop a method to mass produce the material in the 80's. They were bought out by a Swedish company, Fagerdala World Foams, that finished the project and started producing the Tempur mattresses in 1991.

: Sheesh, I can't believe I actually took the time to type this. *l* I do love my TempurPedic mattress, though...

: hurtta

Although I do still find it funny to think of a NASA/Sweden collaboration. Especially how they declare it so proudly on the ads - as if this is the only reason I should buy the mattress. :-) Thanks for typing that all out o Finnish encyclopedia man ... I didn't know any of it and find it interesting!
